Why not a public meeting in a public place?

It seems intended to exclude those who must work and/or cannot afford a $35 breakfast.

I smiled uneasily as I saw the invitation to attend the “Chatham Development Meeting at the Gov Club. It said, “The public is encouraged to attend.” Kinda sorta outa touch? Not too many people in the ordinary public are free to spend $35 to attend a meeting. Yes, breakfast is offered, but that’s a darn expensive breakfast, at least by Chatham County standards. And the meeting is on a Wednesday morning. Many of the public who are “encouraged to attend” are working during the middle of the week. So the real question is, “Who is encouraging who?”
