Hurray! We have over 400 signatures of people in favor of the proposed new cell tower on Farrington Road.

This is TWICE the number of people who are against the tower.

As a parent with children my biggest concern is public safety. We want to be able to call 911 in the event of an emergency while in the Governors Club / Governors Village area.

American Tower has listened to the concerns of neighbors and has been as accommodating as possible. The tower height is down to only 150 feet.

You can see the petition, the “signatures” and the comments http://www.thepetitionsite.com/590/039/202/urge-chatham-county-to-approve-the-governors-village-cell-tower/

Comments include:

*I do not mind looking at the poles that provide electricity. Why should I mind looking at cell phone towers?

* The cell service is awful and with such poor service it is dangerous. We can’t call for emergency services unless we drive a 1/2 mile.

* As more and more folks drop their landline service it becomes more important for cell phone users to be able to call for assistance in an emergency.

* We cannot use cell phones in our home or neighborhood. This is inconvenient and also can be unsafe.

If we can save the life of just one person or one child, putting this tower in our community is definitely worth it.

Let’s hope the planning board supports this new tower for the health and safety of our children.
