Well, the day has arrived.
On Tuesday evening the Chatham County Planning Board will meet. One of the items they will discuss is whether to approve the proposed 150 foot cell tower on Fearrington Road by Governors Village.
As many of us remember, and some refuse to believe, Chatham County Commissioner candidate Howard Karen, informed everyone at the public hearing in Pittsboro that she (and her well to do neighbors) did NOT live in a low-income community.
What were we to think except that Karen Howard thinks she is too high and mighty to have a cell phone tower in her neighborhood. This despite the public safety improvements it would bring to those who might need help during an emergency.
Oh No she didn’t. Oh Yes she did.

I’m not stating a pro or con here, but is this really what she said?
I can’t imagine any politician actually saying that out loud in public. In the several references here to her saying that, no context is given. Does anyone here know where and when she said this, and the other sentences by her and others surrounding this? Just curious.
Yes Kira, this is really what she said at a county public hearing about the proposed new cell phone tower at Farrington Road.
Kira asked if the statement was taken “out of context.” No Kira, the statement was not taken out of context. However, I’m afraid that Karen Howard chose to make the derogatory statement out of context of the public hearing. There was no need for her to say what she said. It was hurtful to many people. And unfortunately Karen Howard has chosen not to make a public apology for her unfortunate statement.
We’ll all see if on Tuesday night, Karen Howard and her snooty neighbors will come crying to the planning board telling them how much they will be inconvenienced by the sight of a new cell phone tower.
BTW, I love you Karen!!! Just make sure to think before you speak.

I was born on a chicken farm in Chatham Co. & proud of it. I’ll admit those were the days when neighbor helped neighbor & a cell phone was someones dream. We had tin can phones, tire swings & no one cared. If any bullying went on it was when one kid bumped into another & said ” excuse me’. I know times have changed but it’s out of hand don’t you think? Seems like they want to disagree on anything, then make it public. It’s vote for this or that party, why not the person? I’m a registered republican but If a democrat says something I agree with & believe I vote for them. Knocks me out a lot of primary voting but I can still vote for the one I want too. No I’m not rich, but that doesn’t matter ( except when I get snubbed by the rich) & I really don’t let that get to me. I just sorta feel sorry for them cause they don’t know what they’re missing. Some of our poorer class people are smarter, more giving, I won’t say better, cause there is no one better, better off maybe, but not better, while stating that, I’m no better than anyone else. Try friendship, it’s amazing what that can grow into. As Red Skelton used to say (when it was allowed) GOD BLESS!
