Subject: Animal calls

Hi all. I appreciate all the ideas about what I heard a while back in the early-ish morning: a *whoop* repeated maybe three times.  The closest suggestion is a Yellow-Billed Cuckoo, heard here at Cornell Lab : http://www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/yellow-billed_cuckoo/sounds.  (The first sound is the cuckoo’s song, the second, the cuckoo’s call which maybe what I heard.)

What I heard was definitely not an owl – I have several around and know their calls. I don’t believe it was a peacock either.  The only sound I’ve heard a peacock make is an anguished *help*.  I don’t know if this is frantling or not. I do know people who heard the call for the first time thought someone was in dire need of assistance.
