People who claim to be “tolerant” are the most “intolerant” of all

Never before has a Chatlist posting done what Kira’s did to me today.  I am incensed and almost beyond words (almost) at the thought that people who claim to be “tolerant” are the most “intolerant” of all.   How dare you – Kira – infer that Bella Donna is named after a poison, thus alluding to anything that is served therein is not fit to eat.

That shows your complete ignorance and absolute lack of any kind of tact, courtesy and morals.   “Bella Donna” means “beautiful lady.”

That being said, my husband and I are proud to call Donna and Bob Bianco our friends.   You won’t find two more giving people to the community than the Biancos.   Donna has donated meals for at least four (4) years to hundreds of Pittsboro residents on Christmas Eve.  Many of us in the community have lent a hand or donated to that event.   I bet you were in line with your plate to take it away.

Bob Bianco has donated countless hours building ramps and many other projects with the New Salem Church Men’s Ministry here in Pittsboro and Chatham County.  You probably didn’t know that several times the Biancos have taken in a homeless person or family until they were back on their feet.   Have you done that lately Kira? Deborah? Anyone?

And yes, Donna has put her business on the line because she has the guts to stand up for what she believes, knowing that the “tolerant” people in Pittsboro and Chatham County would respect her for that.   How many businesses in Pittsboro have done that?   None.   Yet, they all hide behind some group (Pittsboro Matters) to do their talking for them.    I cannot fathom why anyone would believe that Preston Development and the people involved with Chatham Park would do anything to hurt Pittsboro.   I have attended most of, if not all of these meetings, and the things that really stood out to me was listening to folks who built along the Haw River and destroyed “habitat” telling other folks “they” couldn’t do it; and ordering Chatham Park to set aside 40%+ of their land for conservation.  These are the “do as I say, not as I do” folks.   Hey, why don’t all of you go ahead and donate your land.   Go ahead – make a line, who is going to be the first to step forward and donate?   Put up or shut up.

If I choose to go to a certain proprietor/business, it will be because I want to purchase what they are selling, be it Italian food, bakery products, coffee, jewelry, etc.   If I don’t like what they sell, I won’t bring my business there.   Simple!    These businesses will survive or fail based on how well they do what they do.   Donna Bianco listened carefully to the people in this community who asked her to use locally grown produce and meats to support local farms.   This is done at a greater cost then what is served in some restaurants.   Yet, these same folks who asked her to do this balk at the price that is charged and say they won’t go to her restaurant, because they want “Ruth Chris” quality at a “McDonald’s” price.   You get what you pay for folks!    Bob and Donna put a lot of time and money to revamp an eyesore in the community – the closed Pizza Hut – and brought a beautiful establishment out of the ashes to downtown Pittsboro.

So, let’s all grow up and trade in some of that college education and degrees that ya’ll have for some common sense and decorum.  It’s time to move on and continue to support your local business that you “chanted for” in your fight against Chatham Park.

Thank you,
