Below is an e-mail I received from a life-long friend, Barry Burns, and a well known former leading educator in our Chatham county public school system.

Hi Friends

For the many who are not aware, I filed for the NC House for the Chatham/Lee County district.  I felt compelled after failing to get others to enter the race from Chatham County. Our county comprises 80-85% of the district. Robert Reives from Sanford was appointed to fill an unexpired term.

I am outraged by what is being done to our public school system. I have a strong concern for all the lack of oversight at the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, including coal ash and fracking; the ineptness in leadership at the Department of Health and Human Resources (DHHS); along with many other disasters taking place in Raleigh.

Sometimes we have to quit complaining and step up…..I guess I got pushed over the edge!

Barry”

Barry was a teacher for 17 years at Chatham Central School and served as their principal for a period of time. He also served as assistant principal at Chatham Middle in Siler City.  In addition, he was principal at Northwood High School for many years.    Many of the citizens of Chatham County attended those schools during the years in which Barry was a dedicated educator, and many of our children were also his students.  Barry is one of the leading persons instrumental in forming the highly successful organization of the Pittsboro High School Alumni Association 12 years ago (classes 1923-1970) of over 1500 members, albeit the numbers have slowly dwindled as members from the early years are no longer with us     I say this only to emphasize his leadership, organizational skills, and dedication he demonstrates in any job he undertakes.  His foresight into the future education of our children is likely unmatched when it comes to his concern of what is happening to the public school system in North Carolina.  As he states in his e-mail,  he has a strong determination and desire to fight for the future of our children as well as attack other inadequacies of our state government.

Check out his web site at barryburnsnc.com to get more information about him, know the man and what he stands for.  Please encourage your family, friends and coworkers to do the same.  He is an individual from Chatham County who will always have the best interest of you, your children and grandchildren on the top of his list.
