Subject: Is this a health risk or even safe for someone on disability?

I have known Norman Clark for years and I was surprised to read this morning that Norman was running for Chatham County commissioner.

Is it healthy or safe for someone on disability to run for Chatham County commissioner?

As someone who has had health issues and I understand is now on disability, is it really prudent and wise or even safe healthwise for Norman Clark to be running for Chatham County commissioner?

Under North Carolina disability rules, being unable to perform your old work isn’t enough – usually – to get you on disability benefits. You have to be unable to do other work. I can imagin the County Commissioners are placed under a lot of stress.

In order to qualify for disability benefits, you must prove to the government that you are disabled due to a mental or physical health problem.  You must show that you are incapable of conducting “substantial gainful activity” due to your physical/mental health issue. I think Norma’s mind is fine, so it must be a physical thing.

Your condition must interfere with basic work-related activities for your claim to be considered.

For each of the major body systems, there is a list of medical conditions <http://www.ssa.gov/disability/professionals/bluebook/listing-impairments.htm> that are so severe they automatically mean that you are disabled. If your condition is not on the list, they have to decide if it is of equal severity to a medical condition that is on the list. If it is, they will find that you are disabled
