Subject: Chatham Park, are you ready?

Mr. Glendinning remarks are interesting!

The term “quality of development” is interesting.   Exactly what does that mean?   The problem of living on 5 acres could easily be solved.   Sell your home and land to anyone of hundreds of families wanting to move to Chatham County and buy yourself a condo or zero lot line home in Southern Village. YOUR PROBLEM IS SOLVED!

You mention a litany of developments and imply that thousands of people live in them.   In addition they are a credit to the county.   How many folks who live in Chatham County today could afford to live in Fearrington, Briar’s Chapel, Chapel Ridge, The Preserve, Legend Oaks, Galloway Ridge, Westfall, Governor’s Club, Governor’s Village, Henry’s Ridge, Colvard Farms, The Estates at Laurel Ridge, The Bluffs, Shively/Banner, The Glens, and Harris Subdivision, to name a few.   Is it not true that many of these well planned, well built subdivision that are a credit to Chatham County are literally begging for home buyers.

Whether you are for or against Chatham Park, the whole exercise is a joke! With today’s gas prices and what will be increases in the future, who is going to buy a home in a well planned community in Chatham County so they can drive the miles to RTI and what route is best?   Face it, the only employment that will be available to the current citizens of Chatham county will be fast food jobs, restaurants, dry cleaners, nursing homes, landscape services, real estate sales, accounting, insurance, and attorneys.   All good jobs, but no career paths for your graduating students.   The jobs available in the imaginary firms moving into Chatham Park will be for people who move into Chatham County not the folks who live there.   Has any business contacted the community college about a training program for future jobs?   I doubt it!

The only way you will be able to fill jobs in Chatham Park in the next five years would be to move part of SAS to Chatham County and really that’s a little far-fetched.   Their land in Cary is very, very valuable!   Otherwise it will take a hell of a selling job on some ones part to attract any new companies.   Why?   The quality of life sucks for those who desire to live in today’s mill village, excuse me Chatham Park.   Water supply, sewage treatment, a host of aeration paddles spread across the surface of lake Jordan, schools, and many other amenities seem to be missing.   FACE IT YOU ARE NOT READY FOR CHATHAM PARK!
