One of the happy aspects of being a “pet” or domesticated animal in the “country” is the chance to roam and encounter other species. For our golden retrievers, this was often the geese on the pond. For the beagle, the rabbits.. For the cat, the mice in the barn. The quail 40 years ago, the deer and coyotes now. Still the calves in the pasture.

Wonder what we might have learned had you kept the binoculars focused, quietly observing? A speck of nature sans human intervention?
