Hello to all Chatham Chatlist Subscribers!

My name is James Fry, and I am a new subscriber to the list. While I currently live in Greensboro, I hope to move to Chatham County one day soon. Eventually I hope to live on a piece of property in River Forest that my parents purchased 35+ years ago, planning to retire there. They always called the property “the farm” dreaming that they would farm the land in their “retirement”.

My father died of cancer in ’91 and my mother has no plans to move from her current residence. My sisters have no plans for the land either, and I have been given permission to use it as I see fit. I have formal training and experience as a horticulturist, landscape and permaculture designer, agricultural educator and researcher. I have a wonderful wife and two sons, 4 and 6 years old. My passion is local sustainable agriculture practice and education, and I am driven to produce research that advances the practice while promoting the movement, especially with regard to ecologically integrated farming systems. I am currently pursuing further sustainable agriculture education at CCCC, and look forward to getting to know you all.

Developing “The Farm” will be a long term project, and many things must happen in the meantime. One of which is related to the only former access to the property, across a stream. This access was installed by a logger, who disregarded regulations. Needless to say, it washed out and is now a liability that I must deal with. There are *9 eight foot long steel reinforced concrete pipes measuring 5′ in diameter* that I must remove from the stream. I have a quote for removing them, and am hoping I can find someone with a use for them who would be willing to pay a small cost that would help us recoup some of the removal cost.  I am *willing to negotiate on price, and will gladly give these pipes to anyone free of cost if they will remove them from their current location.  *For more information, email me at *

Thank you all for helping to make Chatham County the treasure that it is, I anxiously anticipate becoming a member of your community.

Sincerely,

James L. Fry III
