Subject: Former Chatham Coaliton vice-chairman Sally Kost resigns as Chatham commissioner
Pittsboro, NC – Chatham County commissioner Sally Kost has announced her resignation from the board effective Feb. 1. Kost is relocating to Golden, Colo., with her husband, Tom.
Liberal Democrat Sally Kost was the former vice-chair of the partisan Chatham Coalition political action committee. In 2008, Sally Kost and Jeffrey Starkweather ran as a team for the Chatham County Commission in Districts 1 and 2. Kost was elected in 2008 and re-elected in 2012
“It has been an honor to serve the citizens of Chatham County. My priority as a commissioner has always been building a stronger citizen-focused community, including preparing Chatham County for the growth we know is to occur.”
Kost, from District 1, states that she was elected on a platform of promoting open/transparent government, smart growth, economic development and improving schools. She claims that she has been a strong advocate for environmental protection.
“I love this community and it is heartbreaking to leave it, especially at such a critical time for Chatham,” Kost said in a press release. “If approved, Chatham Park could change the landscape of our community forever. The county board needs to do a better job of working with the community, the Town of Pittsboro, and the Board of Education to ensure that Chatham is prepared for this development.”
Former Chatham Coalition Commissioner George Lucier praised Kost this week for her leadership and budget knowledge.
“Sally has often been the lone voice on many progressive issues, including affordable housing, environmental protection and better land use planning. She will be greatly missed,” he said.
