Emily,

Before you call a plumber, go outside and check to make sure your outdoor hose bibs are all turned off. I suspect you are getting some back pressure from a hose left on at the hose bib and that is making the buzzing sound in your plumbing.

Subject: Local Plumber Referral?

Hi there! My pipes are making a loud buzzing sound whenever I flush my upstairs toilet and I can’t figure out how to make it stop. I have tried draining and refilling the tank, opening and closing and tightening the valve, and am now afraid anything else I do will only mess it up more. Does anyone have a referral to a local plumber, or even regular old handy-person who might be willing to take a look at it and not charge me a fortune?

I am a first-time homeowner and plumbing scares me! 🙂

If you know someone please email me at

Thanks y’all!
