Judging by the number of posts on the Chatlist this morning, the subject of Chatham Park is going into full swing. I haven’t done enough research to jump in yet, but I do recall what happened when we tried to stop those big developments a few years ago – the ones that are now sitting partially vacant due to the ’09 economy.

We had meetings and speeches and a lot of community effort to control those developments, but failed. I was at one meeting where the developer told us off the record in the parking lot that we could fight all we wanted but that he always won in the end.

I think it’s naive to think that the development can be controlled to the extent that some politicians say. And to say that it will not change the community is beyond naive.

Aside from the other privileges we current residents will lose, I will miss seeing the stars at night.

  1. You know, the British said that about the Colonials before the Revolutionary War. Remember what Thomas Jefferson said, and I am paraphrasing, all it takes for tyranny to take over is for good people to do nothing.

Public Opinion. The strongest thing in our society.
