For those of you who had planned on running on October 12, OR participating in the Community Day events, please read the letter below:

Good Evening,

I regret to notify you that due to the Partial Government shutdown the Siler City Run To End Hunger 5k/Chatham County Community Day at the Siler City Armory has been postponed.

At this time we are experiencing a Partial Government Shutdown which does not allow the National Guard to participate in any community events or ceremonies. Due to the budgetary uncertainty in Fiscal Year 2014, the North
Carolina National Guard has been directed by National Guard Bureau and the Department of Defense to “cease all support to non-DoD organizations for outreach activities. This includes, but is not limited to, military equipment displays, parades, and civic events as well as military open houses, and local community relations activities.”

We are currently planning planning to reschedule the 5K/Community Day and when the dates become certain we will alert everyone through all channels available, including our Facebook page.

I personally want to thank all of the runners who registered. Your commitment and dedication are the foundation upon which our entire event has been built. We are now seeking input from you on our race in order to make the rescheduled event even better. Feel free to reply with comments or make suggestions. We will do everything we can to improve the experience for everyone involved.

The West Chatham Food Pantry has been an outstanding partner from the very beginning. We believe in the work that they are doing and in their mission. We will continue our relationship with them and work to increase our support for the rescheduled event. There are a few organizations assisting them in conjunction with our event and we will keep the community updated on the progress of these support campaigns through our Facebook page.

For questions about the status of your registration, you can reply directly to me and you can call me anytime (919) 412-6567. At this time you can keep your status unchanged until we have details about the rescheduled event.

You can express your desire for a refund and we will send it to you as soon as we can. You can alternately direct us to donate the registration fee to the West Chatham Food Pantry and we will do so. Any of these options are available to you now and in the future as well.

Once again I thank you for your desire to build a strong community together with us.
