Healing through the Arts: 5 Week Workshop

Wednesday evenings: October 23, 30 and November 6, 13, & 20

This 5-week workshop will provide creative avenues of healing for adult,  female survivors of sexual violence. The intention of this workshop is to create a supportive environment for survivors to connect and share with others in the community who have had similar experiences. Each week, a project or activity will be provided, focusing on the theme of strength and resiliency through healing. Participants will have the opportunity to explore the ways in which sexual violence has impacted their lives through creative individual work, and then will come together to share through group discussion. FVRC will provide all materials necessary to complete the activities and projects offered this week (examples of projects include: mask making, mandala making, claywork). Individuals of all levels of artistic skill are welcome, no experience required.

Body Mapping: Saturday Workshop
When: Saturday, December 14

In this half-day workshop for adult, female survivors of sexual violence, participants will engage in a body mapping activity. Body mapping is a tool for healing that allows individuals to explore the interconnection of physical and emotional experience by developing a visual map of their being. In practice body mapping involves creating an outline of the body on a large surface (paper/fabric), which is then filled with colors, shapes, symbols, images, and words representing experiences lived in the body. A guided mindfulness visualization will be  offered, as an introduction to the activity, and participants will come together to share their work at the conclusion of the session.
