Woods Charter School has been selected by NC Beautiful, WRAL-TV5 and Capitol Broadcasting to receive a special prize of 50 azaleas for use in a 2013 Beautification Project.

Alice Berry, who was elected to the Woods Volunteer Wall of Fame last Spring for her outstanding service to the community in the area of plant care and tending, wrote the winning grant request for the 28th Annual Azalea Celebration.

Ms. Berry’s proposal envisions encircling the outdoor learning classroom located in the woods behind school with the 30 low lavender,10 medium purple and 10 tall lavender-pink & purple flowers. This beautification project will be known as the J. Harrell Rentz Outdoor Classroom and Azalea Garden in honor of our recently retired principal, and  will include a “Compass Garden” which will introduce our younger students to the concepts of North, East, South and West.

Volunteers are sought on Sunday, October 20th, to plant the azaleas and bring Ms. Berry’s vision to life.
