Subject: Free talk: Meeting Your Backyard Herbs with herbalist, Amy Magrinat

Wellness of Chatham will be hosting its next talk on Thursday, October 3, 2013 at The Pittsboro Roadhouse & General Store, 39 West Street, Pittsboro. Our speaker, community herbalist, Amy Magrinat, will be delivering her talk, Meeting Your Backyard Herbs.

Have you ever wondered what was growing under your feet in cracks in the sidewalk or in vacant lots? Who are those tenacious little green beings? This class will introduce you to six herbs you’ll find in just those places…Herbs that can provide us with bountiful nutrition, first aid capabilities, and healing from common colds. They grow plentifully all around us, just waiting to be noticed. Join me in taking a closer look; you might be surprised at the allies you find!

Amy Magrinat is a community herbalist in Chatham County.  Her journey back to the world of plant medicine began in 2001 while living in the Redwoods of California, where she began to feel a deep need to know both what was growing all around her and what healing powers those plants provided. She began her official studies with California herbalist Jane Bothwell, and started on the path she continues today….studying and crafting herbs.  Learning from teachers as varied as Michael Moore, Aviva Romm, Kathleen Maier, and Howie Brounstein, Amy is excited to share her passion for plants through teaching, private consulting, and creating plant remedies from her garden and the wild herbs that surround her.

As always, WOC talks are free and open to the public.  For more information about this and future WOC events, please email Traci Philips at .

  1. I have some questions? You may or may not be able to answer it. Here goes… Why is it when I drink herbal teas like: ginger with lemon grass I feel like it detox my prescription medications? The medications feel to me as if they are not working to its fullest purpose. Is it that I will go through these icky feeling a couple of days and it will get better. I feel like I am going through depression. I take an antidepressant because I have depression. So I do not know if these is a good thing to do or bad thing to do. It would be great to know that I would not have to take medications and go all natural. What is your thoughts about this?
