I live on a section of old hyway 64- Built in 1921 and abandoned 1942. Portions of it is still intact, winding in and out of properties between Pittsboro and Siler City.

The road is appox. 22 feet wide and passed thru some pretty rugged isolated country territory.  I am guessing if your car broke down along those country roads, it would be a nightmare. To wait for another car to venture by, could take hours, maybe days.

One day as I walked along a particular stretch of ‘my highway’, there was a rustling of the low hanging leaves over my head- seemingly, I could hear someone weeping and someone else talking. Now this was not coming from a neighbor’s house or anything like that- and it was not my imagination.  It was somehow being generated from a space directly over the highway and over my head. It was very difficult to make out words or sentences- But one thing I did understand was the phrase “What are we going to do? What are we going to do?”  It was the voice of a woman, deeply troubled and worried.

I have often heard that ‘spirits’ can be trapped for an eternity within a situation.  I have many times returned the the exact same spot hoping to somehow experience what I heard before. But now, the tree is dying, branches are falling . .  Perhaps at last, the situation has resolved itself .  .  .
