Subject: Southeast Chatham Citizen’s Advisory Council Meeting

The next scheduled meeting of the SCCAC is Tuesday, August 20th at 7:00 PM at the Moncure Volunteer Fire Department, located at the corner of Pea Ridge Road and Old US 1.

Elaine Chiosso, Haw RIVERKEEPER® and executive director of the Haw River Assembly, will be the guest speaker.
This program will focus on fracking and the future of NC’s environment with a presentation by Haw RIVERKEEPER® and executive director of the Haw River Assembly, Elaine Chiosso. It will explore what  fracking is; where it could happen, current state legislation and why she believes NC should remain “frack free”.

The program will include a screening of “A Message From The Marcellus”, a 20-minute short film created by Todd Tinkham and Molly Matlock to help stop fracking from becoming legal in North Carolina. These filmmakers traveled to Pennsylvania and  New York, interviewing people from various walks of life about the impacts of natural gas fracking on their communities. The film intersperses these interviews with  NC citizens concerned about fracking beginning here.

Ms. Chiosso lives in Chatham County, and has worked to protect the Haw River and Jordan Lake for over 30 years. She has served on state and local boards and commissions to protect our people, land and waters, including the State Sedimentation Control Commission,  the Chatham County Planning Board and the Environmental Review Board.

The Southeast Chatham Citizen’s Advisory Council, comprised of residents and business owners primarily within Moncure, Haywood, Pea Ridge, Merry Oaks, Brickhaven and Corinth areas, was established in 2001 to provide a unified community voice directed at good planning and zoning and to present community concerns to county and state offices of oversight. We welcome and encourage participation of all residents, businesses and organizations within our community.
