Subject: Voter Registration in Chatham County
In the past three years, the democratic party has lost about 6% of its voters. The republican and independent (unaffiliated) have gained that much, almost equally. The state roll of democrats is at 43% of total registered, republicans at 31% independents at 26%.
Chatham County rolls are almost the same:
democrats 44%
republicans 26%
independents 29%
(Don’t bother to criticize the math. Libertarians and fractions make up the rest.)
When I moved here, democrats represented around 70% of voters and there was no two party system. Disregarding the recent self destructive actions at Goodwin House in Raleigh, the party (democrat) has lost its once powerful and unique position among NC voters. The
base has eroded over decades, but more recently, very rapidly.
Could it be that the liberal bent has been identified and rejected?
Could it be that “tax and spend” is no longer approved fiscal management? Are the heartless dogs in power just a reflection of the people’s will to restrain government and its power to tax and regulate? Are countless regulations eating away at our ability to make a living?
Something is wrong and the voters recognize a problem. Gangsta politics out the window? Not according to news from Goodwin House. Keep the chairman in office. He’s doing a fine job of changing registration, affiliation and loyalty.
One day, it may be possible to get a job while registered as a republican. What do you think? Is it possible?
