Subject: To those who what to grow Bamboo and to those who think they can ‘control’ Bamboo
Despite what has been said on the Chatlist about the horrors of growing bamboo, there are those that still feel they will be the exception and be able to control it. If you really want a true picture of Bamboo outwitting man- Drive to Pittsboro- On highway 64 (West Street) across from Habitat-Restore, beside the funeral home there is a huge area of bamboo. Stop, park and get a good close-up look. Shoots as big and as thick as your arm. Some attempt is being made there to cut it down and build something. If this scene doesn’t convince you, nothing will.
Also, drive hyway 87 from 64- West Salisbury St. and the round-a-bout. Look to your right behind the houses. It is a forest of bamboo. Originally planted only behind one house. Now, all houses and land are being threatened.
