Join David Blevins for a photo tour of White Pines Nature Preserve in Chatham County. David will help each participant improve their photography by taking control of their camera and learning the art of seeing. This is a
wonderful location full of photographic possibilities for you to expand your photographic potential.

The workshop will begin with an introduction to the Preserve by Leigh Ann Hammerbacher with Triangle Land Conservancy and a short discussion by David Blevins of the secrets to improving your photography. Next we will hike into the preserve and put these ideas to use. We will learn to work with changing natural light and take full advantage of the magical light that happens at sunset. We will work together to identify interesting subjects, discuss ways to visually interpret those subjects, and capture those interpretations with our cameras. David will work with each participant behind their camera to help them identify and achieve their own photographic goals. Registration is limited to ten participants.

This workshop is open to photographers of all skill levels. Bring your own camera and your camera’s instructions if you have any doubts about how to operate your camera. A tripod is recommended if you have one but is not essential. Bring your own dinner, plenty of water to drink, insect repellent, and anything else that will help you remain comfortable during an afternoon and evening of photography outdoors. There are no facilities or shelter on the preserve so come prepared to be outside, in the elements, until dusk. Most importantly, you should bring your enthusiasm to learn and your love of nature.

David Blevins is a professional nature photographer, forest ecologist, and co-author of Wild North Carolina, Discovering the Wonders of our States Natural Communities. He has led photography workshops for over 10 years
helping participants expand their photographic potential. His images are inspired by natural patterns such as the organization of a leaf, the behavior of an animal, or the structure of a forest. You can see more of David’s photography on his web site at www.blevinsphoto.com.
