Chatham is one of the counties growing in population.  It just doesn’t have any jobs to go along with this growth.  So we are a bedroom community without the means or modesty to support itself.  Lost 5000 jobs in Siler City over the last ten to fifteen years, with a poverty level over 20%, yet we are marketing our pretty face, the green, “rural” atmosphere instead of the well rounded life of thirty years ago.

Agriculture is our biggest contributor to gross county product, and we have so many rules on it that a farmer needs a lawyer to raise food.  Read ’em and weep, those who knew how good life was back then.

We need some regulatory reform and consistency in regulatory enforcement to bring life back into our lives.
