Subject: Sales Tax at the PTA

I took a Sales and Use Tax class from the NC DOR several years ago, at the Wake Tech campus. The teacher, a DOR employee, explained that because the revenue from the PTA stores goes straight into the school system, they don’t collect sales tax.  Other thrift shops that do not send  their money back to a government program do have to collect sales tax.
