Agriculture Advisory Committee

The Agriculture Advisory Committee has one vacancy with a term ending June 30, 2015. The county prefers applicants involved with farming or other agricultural interests in the southeastern part of the county.  However, interested applicants from all areas of the county are encouraged to apply.

The committee advises the Board of Commissioners on agricultural issues, but also reviews and approves all property requesting to be part of a Voluntary Agriculture District.

The committee usually meets the second Tuesday every other month at 7 pm in Pittsboro.

Environmental Review Advisory Committee

The ERC advises the Board of Commissioners on environmental policy and related county ordinances; assists county staff with environmental reviews required for state and federal environmental permits in the county; and partners with other local and regional governmental agencies on mutual environmental concerns. The ERC also serves as the county’s Watershed Review Board.

The ERC has three vacant seats representing the western part of the county (commissioner districts 4 and 5) and the southeastern area (commissioner district 2), but applicants from all areas are strongly encouraged to apply.

It typically meets on the third Thursday of the month at 6:30 pm in the Pittsboro area. To find out more about the ERC, visit: www.chathamnc.org/Index..aspx?page=379<http://www.chathamnc.org/Index.aspx?page=379>

Solid Waste Advisory Committee

The county has two vacancies on SWAC, which provides guidance to the Board of Commissioners on solid waste issues, including waste reduction and recycling, short-term and long-term disposal, collection center policies, household hazardous waste, environmental education, and environmental enforcement..

SWAC especially needs applicants from the eastern part of the county (commissioner districts 1 and 2), but all interested applicants are invited to apply.  One term would end June 30, 2014 and the other June 30, 2015.

The committee usually meets the first Wednesday every other month in Pittsboro. For more information on SWAC, visit www.chathamnc.org/Index.aspx?page=697<http://www.chathamnc.org/Index.aspx?page=697>.

Transportation Advisory Committee

TAC studies transportation issues and makes related recommendations to the Board of Commissioners.  There are three vacancies, with a major need for representatives from the western part of the county as well as southeastern Chatham, but applicants from all areas are strongly encouraged to apply.

The county seeks members with an interest in at least one of the following transportation segments:
