Thank you, Chatham!

I just wanted to take a moment to say Thank You to those who responded to my Chatlist #4477 request for dog crates to support the Pit Crew Pit Bull Rescue for which I volunteer. fundraise and foster.

This is a cause near and dear to my heart, as I have always been one who believes we must help to fight for the underdog and those who can’t speak for themselves.  Not only are Pit Bulls often victimized by neglectful and abusive owners but they also suffer from the fear and ignorance often found in the community.  They definitely have a bad reputation, but they are a very sweet and loyal breed that unfortunately often attracts the wrong kind of owner.

Donations are always greatly appreciated-  we depend upon community support to help us to rescue some very-worthy dogs and provide them a supportive, loving foster home, veterinary care & medication, high quality diet and supplements, rehabilitation, play and training until we can find them a forever family. Some case are very complicated and costly, such as Hazel, who ended up having pneumonia and a collapsed lung.  She was given a 40% chance of survival, but she recovered wonderfully and is now happy & healthy with her new adoptive family with 3 kids in Apex.

The donations of in-kind goods, such as the kennels, we have received help greatly so that we can use more of our budget toward veterinary care which is our most overwhelming expense.

Volunteers and donations are the essential elements in the survival of all the valuable nonprofits in our area, and I have been impressed by the fact that not only are the people I’ve met since moving to Pittsboro very kind, by Chatham is a great community of very creative, compassionate people who understand the importance of community involvement and with many worthy local causes such as Carolina Tiger Rescue (formerly Carnivore Preservation Trust- which I loved volunteering at as a kid- it helps save and protect wild cats of all sizes, such as cougars, Caracals, & Ocelots and well as as some omnivores such as Kinkajous and binturongs), the Goathouse Refuge (a cage-free, no-kill cat sanctuary), Family Violence Violence & Rape Crisis Services, Habitat for Humanity, and Chatham Animal Rescue & Education, “CARE” (which has Yappy Hour Fundraisers at Carolina Brewery  a lot of fun for a great cause).  These wonderful causes
could not continue their important work without you.

Thank you, Chatham, for all that you do!  Besides the generous donations the Pit Crew received from individuals, we also have received a large donation of supplies from another very worthy cause in our community- Dogs Off Chains (www.dogsoffchains.org ).  This helps build fences to unchain tethered dogs.  Many dogs are left tethered outside 24/7/365 to suffer through the elements- cold, rain, lightening, sleet, snow, hail or hurricane.  You’ve seen what hail can do to a car- imagine what it can do to a confined animal unable to find shelter  Dogs Off Chains has 2 upcoming events for which they need volunteers to help build fences for these dogs-

The first build is a single dog named Patches. A beautiful Akita in Siler City. Date: Sunday, November 4th 10:00 AM Start

The second build is our other fence that was sponsored through the ASPCA and is for Smokey and Foxy.
They are in the Staley area. Date: Sunday, November 11th, 9:30 AM Start

The Pit Crew Pit Bull Rescue has a consistent need for: dog bowls, dog crates, metal dog bowls, quality puppy & dog food, dog leashes & collars, dog harnesses, Kongs & toys,, dog treats, flea & tick preventative and heartworm preventative.  Tax receipts provided for donations. We appreciate your continued support.  Thank You for Your
Generosity & Have a Lovely Day! Abbie
