With just a little effort, you can brighten the lives of children in need by participating in Christmas Wishes, a program of the Chatham County Department of Social Services.

“We are seeking individuals and groups to sponsor children through the Christmas Wishes Program, which will reach at least 200 children this holiday season,” said Sandy Coletta, director of Social Services.  “Children in the program are involved with various services provided by our department.”

Over the past six years, the Christmas Wishes Program has grown substantially. “This means that we need and expect to receive even more generous donations to help these children,” Coletta said.

Donors can choose to sponsor a specific child or can send a monetary donation for the Christmas Wishes Program, which meets needs beyond the holiday season. “We do focus on items requested by the child but also on broader overall needs.”

Used items, even those in good condition, are not encouraged.

Those interested in sponsoring a Chatham County child for Christmas Wishes should contact the Placement Unit at (919) 542-2759 or email <mailto:>.

For those interested in making a longer term commitment to children in Chatham County, please consider becoming a foster parent. For more information about being a foster family, please call (919) 542-2759 or email <mailto:>.
