Fall 2012 Textile Courses
Tuesdays, August 7, 14, 21, 28, 2012 6:30 PM – 9:30 PM
Exploring Twills Instructor: Jean Vollrath
Students will each dress a loom for a different four or eight harness twill and will weave off samples from each dressed loom. Students will explore creating twill drafts. Extra time outside of class the first week will be required to complete dressing the loom in time for the second class period. Prepared warps can be mailed to students in advance or to students bringing their own loom. Materials needed: Yarns included. Please bring scissors, tape measure, notebook and pencils.

Tuesdays, Sept 18, 25, Oct 2,9,16,23,30, Nov 6, 2012 6:30 – 9:30 PM
Handloom Weaving – Beginner/Intermediate Instructor: Jean Vollrath
Beginners will learn terminology, how to dress a loom, how to read draft
notation and complete a basic project. More advanced students will complete
a project of their choosing. Students of all levels are welcomed.
Materials required: Notebook and pencil, scissors, tape measure, graph
paper, toilet paper. Yarn to be purchased.

Pattern Drafting Workshop
Instructor: Jean Vollrath
Students will learn how to read pattern drafts, manipulate drafts for more
efficient weaving, create drafts and explore drafting software. Some
drafting experience is helpful but not necessary. Materials required: graph
paper, notebook, pencil.

Silk Scarf Dyeing Workshop Instructor: Jean Vollrath
Students will learn to use machine stitching to create a resist pattern in a
silk scarf-just in time for Christmas presents! Acid dyes and fiber
reactive dye will be explored. All levels are welcomed. Costs of one silk
scarf and all dyes included in tuition fee. Students may purchase additional
scarves.
