Subject: Summer Classes in Sustainable Agriculture

CCCC is offering two new Continuing Education classes in Sustainable Agriculture starting May 31 and June 4.  Registration: $66.25, call 919-545-8044 or drop by the CCCC office.

*The Living Garden*:  In this course, we will be introduced to the diverse array of organisms inhabiting the soil ecosystem and their differing roles in creating a healthy and fertile soil.   Students will learn how to promote the growth of many beneficial organisms such as nitrogen-fixing bacteria, mycorrhizae, earthworms.  Other topics included are strategies for increasing organic matter, how compost works, and the basics of cover cropping.  *Mondays 6-9 pm from June 4 to 25 and Saturday June 30 from 10-4 (workshop). *Summer in the Garden:* Students can expect to learn about and participate in seasonal farming activities at the Student farm, CCCC. Special focus will be on best crops for piedmont NC, and organic production principles and practices including pest management strategies. Learn how to manage your summer garden! *Thursdays 5/31/12 to 7/12/12 (No class week of 7/4/12) 6-8 pm .  Instructor: Hillary Heckler*
