We had a similar experience not too long after we moved to Chatham about 20 years ago. There was a unfamiliar cat with rabies or distemper in the back yard – obviously a very very sick cat – and the Animal Control guy asked if I had a gun. He never came out. I guess that’s still the policy today…Not sure what I expected him to do but it shocked me too
…..The funny thing is they asked us “do you have a gun? You can kill it yourself. Good for wild dogs too”. Kinda shocked they said that but it makes sense. By the time someone gets there it may be too late.
