Subject: Chatham hits 5th on pollution list under Chatham Coalition regime

The Chatham Coaltion Commissioners who preached about a green environment apparently failed miserably. Under the leadership of Tom Vanderbeck, George Lucier, Sally Kost and all, Chatham landed up being the 5th most pollted county in the state of North Carolina.

“According to data that industrial polluters must report to the Environmental Protection Agency in 2010, polluters released over 1 million pounds of toxic pollution into the air breathed by residents in each of twelve counties (listed in descending order by amount): Columbus (3,972,385 lbs.), New Hanover (3,056,955lbs.), Wayne (2,148,960 lbs.),

Haywood (2,062,632 lbs.), Chatham (1,959,508 lbs.), Beaufort (1,949,921 lbs.), Rutherford (1,9365,551 lbs.), Gaston (1,765,023 lbs.), Rowan (1,427,134 lbs.), Brunswick (1,275,653 lbs.), Rockingham (1,272,794 lbs.), and Catawba (1,053,677 lbs.) counties.

Reported toxic air pollution includes chemicals known to cause cancer. Polluters released nearly 50,000 pounds or more of known carcinogens into the air of each of ten counties (listed in descending order by amount): Columbus (197,082 lbs.), Wilson (126,923 lbs.), Haywood (113,591 lbs.), Brunswick (103,151 lbs.), Montgomery (85,294 lbs.), Chatham (78,640 lbs.), Rowan (76,664 lbs.), Wilkes (57,925 lbs.), Craven (55,174 lbs.), and Chowan (49,307 lbs.) counties.”

Chatham: CP&L Cape Fear plant, Arclin in Moncure, General Timber near Sanford, 3M in Pittsboro, Moncure Plywood, and Townsends in Bonlee and Moncure. A brief look over showed CP&L to be the biggest contributor.

Could you imagine how much worst it would be if the Chatham Coalition commissioners were still in power? And Coalition members Sally Kost and Jeffrey Strakweather are planning to run for the commission in 2012.

George Lucier claimed he cared more about our children than we did. But this is apparently not so.
