Subject: Northwood Mens Soccer tie 3-3 against Cedar Ridge

The Chargers and Cedar Ridge battled to a 3-3 tie through regulation and two overtimes Monday evening in Pittsboro. NHS took a 1-0 lead ten minutes in with a hard 25 yard direct kick by Anthony Castro off the keepers hands. CR tied the match two minutes later on a Charger breakdown in the box. CR scored again one minute later on a Northwood foul in the box. They converted a PK to make it 2-1. Within the span of another minute they converted a misplayed clear by NHS to make it 3-1.

With ten minutes remaining in the half anthony Castro scored again with an assist from Connor Lawrence to make it 3-2. With two minutes remaining in the half Castro struck again with another 30 yard direct kick into the top of the net to tie the match 3-3.

The second half saw both teams have direct scoring opportunities stopped by outstanding defensive efforts. Chase Golden and Blake Svendsen made diving saves in the OT periods to save scoring chances. Connor Lawrence put a ball into the left side of the CR net in OT that was ruled out by the side judge. Northwood played extremely hard and with much passion.

NHS hosts Carrboro Wednesday at 5/7.

The NHS JV recorded a 3-0 win vs Cedar Ridge in the 5pm match. No stats were available at this posting.
