Subject: Local Massage Therapist Elected to Board of Directors
Cindy Wright of Pittsboro, a state licensed and nationally certified Oncology and Mastectomy Massage Therapist, was recently elected to the Board of Directors of The Society for Oncology Massage (S4OM).
S4OM is an international organization of licensed massage therapists with
the particular interest, specialized training and extra-ordinary compassion
to safely bring the healing powers of massage to cancer patients at all
stages of the cancer journey.
Did you know that a growing number of medical research studies suggest a
link between gentle non-invasive massage for people affected by cancer with
significant reductions in pain, fatigue, nausea, depression, and anxiety?
The American Cancer Society now recommends massage to bring comfort and
improve the quality of life of cancer patients, and numerous cancer centers now
prescribe and provide massage therapy as part of treatment for their
patients.
In addition to completing a 944-hour massage program, I have acquired more
than 130 hours of advanced training from the world’s leading experts in
the field of Oncology Massage. I am currently one of the only massage
therapists in the nation working exclusively with cancer patients and their
caregivers, with hundreds of hours of hands-on experience both in my private
office and as a volunteer. I’ve been featured in the Cary News and have
recently written for Touched By Cancer Magazine.
I am currently working to establish a non-profit foundation to fund
massage therapy for those affected by cancer. Knowing the financial burden that
cancer treatment places on families, I offer services free of charge, if
necessary, from diagnosis through treatment. I thankfully accept payments of
any amount during this time, as it through the generosity and donations of
supporters that I am able to continue this work, free of charge, for those
without the ability to pay.
