Subject: Companion dogs no longer welcome at Lowes Home Improvement!

I went to Lowes on Saturday to make a return—–as I entered, there was a sign saying “SERVICE ANIMALS ONLY”.  When I inquired about this, I was told it “came down from Corporate because someone’s Rottweiler growled at a child, the owner did nothing, and the mother called Corporate and complained.” I have attempted to contact the Corporate office to find out if this alleged incident actually occurred, if so, when and where, and to request a copy of the formal complaint and Lowes’ response to it.  Is this ” no companion dogs allowed” policy just for Pittsboro, all of NC or nationwide?  As a dog owner who always enjoys visiting Lowes with my pooches, (if the ban is true)

I will be sorely disappointed by such a hysterical sweeping reaction to one person’s perceived threat.  Wonder what would have happened if I’d called Corporate last Christmas when someone’s small (unattended) child spit at me and then threw a lightbulb box at me?  COME ON CORPORATE, almost all of us need to go to Lowes from time to time–Don’t put us in a position of leaving the dogs (or the children) at home unattended, or even worse, waiting for us in the parking lot in a hot or cold car.

  1. I saw a dog owner allow their dog to jump up on a picnic table that others eat off of and rub it’s itchy butt on the table. The owners thought it was no big deal. Their feelings were hurt when I asked them to get their dog off the table.
People who own pets should enjoy them ( I sure did!) while being considerate of others. I have owned dogs and cats for over 20 years, and I would never bring them to a Restaurant or Store! I left it in the car with the windows rolled well down. If this dog is not essential for you to function with, be considerate of the owners (corporate or not) who are concerned about others.
Dogs can be aggressive and certainly can be dirty.

  2. Your pets (and children) are always welcome at The Home Depot!
