Chatham Seeks Members for Transportation Committee

The Chatham County Board of Commissioners seeks applicants for six vacant positions on the Transportation Advisory Committee (TAC). The TAC’s purpose is to identify and study transportation issues and make recommendations to the county commissioners. The committee’s long-term goal is to have a transportation system that offers access to various modes of transportation for people and goods.

The committee has 11 voting members. Each member should have an interest in at least one of the following transportation groups:

 *   Non-motorized transportation, such as bicycling and walking
 *   Public transportation, such as transit systems
 *   Personal motor vehicles, such as cars and motorcycles
 *   Large, slow-moving or commercial vehicles, including agricultural and commercial product transport
 *   Transportation and the economy
 *   Transportation and the environment
 *   Transportation and society (community)
 *   Transportation and public safety

The six open seats have terms that will expire June 30, 2013.  Residents interested in serving on the Transportation Advisory Committee should submit an official application form by Sept. 14, 2011 at 5 pm.  Applications are available on the Chatham County website at:  http://www.chathamnc.org/Index.aspx?page=3D49

You also may call Melissa Guilbeau at 545-8337 or Lindsay Ray at 542-8200 to obtain a copy. All applications will be reviewed by a selection committee and formal appointments will be approved by the Board of County Commissioners in October.

The governing policy for all county citizen advisory committees, including the Transportation Advisory Committee, can be found at: http://www.chathamnc.org/Index.aspx?page=3D41 .
