Those willing to pay more taxes are ignored

I don’t know enough about the school funding issue to determine whether Chairman Bock or the administrator has it right.  But I want to focus on the last paragraph of Chairman Bock’s message.  It is the crux of the problem our country is going through now.

Some claim the federal government doesn’t have (and can’t raise) the money to meet provide the services citizens expect.  They say it should be the responsibility of the states to provide those servicess.  The same folks at the state level say the state doesn’t have (and can’t raise) the money either, so it should be the responsibility of the county (e.g., paying what county citizens believe is necessary for a good education for
their children).  And then Chairman Bock says that “…it is impossible for the county to replace the cuts from the state.”

Those willing to pay more taxes in order to have those services are ignored because, of course, taxes are evil.  The result is that needed and desired services aren’t provided and the country, state, and county continue a slow decline in quality of life.  What a shame!

  1. Mr. Cotter, feel free to pay as much tax as you would like. As for the rest of us, we don’t necessarily agree with you. Keep your hands out of my wallet. As a Fearrington resident, you no doubt are well off enough to pay for the services you would like.
