Morning all,

Have gotten some emails about my scholarship post.  These scholarships are almost exclusively for  RISING HIGH SCHOOL SENIORS.  I sent out the note to the chatlist b/c I didn’t think the word was getting out in the schools.  There is so much to think about when your kids get to be close to college and I’m not sure people realize just how much money is out there to be had…..with a little work.

Go to the Northwood webpage and click on counseling and pull down and click on scholarships.  That is just a taste of what’s out there.

There are lots of deadlines, some as early as Sept/Oct. so don’t wait.  And fill out EVERY ONE even if you think there isn’t a chance.  We didn’t fill out the SECU ($10,000) for either of my kids b/c I was told it always goes to a teachers kid.  Well, this year it didn’t.  That one is the one every high school offers (Woods?) and the student is chosen by the high school, not a group of people who don’t know them.

I believe you still have to get the forms from the guidance office which has limited (or no?) hours in July.  Bug your kid to do this!!!  Take my world for it, it is worth it.  Even if they don’t get any funding, it’s good experience for them to sit down and think about some of the question on these applications and filling them out is good practice for the real world too.

Sorry so long.  Just wanted to clarify and reiterate that this is FREE MONEY to help educate our kids b/c we live in a very generous community.

Thanks Chatham!!

Meg
