I read with almost hysterical laughter Jina’s post about Century Link, having just spent the last month battling Century Link myself. If I ran my business they way they run theirs we’d be closed in a week! I have no phone service at my house, just the DSL line. I have had problems with it on and off for the whole year and a half I’ve lived there. However, I began having constant problems in early May. After repeated phones calls to CL (in the end I was calling daily), being told contradictory things constantly, visits by two techs, and promises that a new modem was on the way, only to be told
by the next person that no order had been placed, I was beside myself. I had been told that the “engineers” were working on it and they couldn’t give me a completion date, no- it was my own wireless router, no- it was the modem, there should be a dial tone, there shouldn’t be a dial tone, my “port” was turned off at the junction, the line coming into the house was fine, the line was dead, a purple elephant was sitting on the line (ok, not that one but ………..).
I finally filed a complaint with the attorney general’s office. 919-716-6000 and file your complaint at www.ncdoj.gov. Guess what? I have internet now! The line between the outside junction and my inside outlet was broken. Now how hard was that to find?
I believe the reason is because competition is next to nil. Time Warner doesn’t come out my way. Satellite service is every expensive and not as good. What are you going to do? Nothing. So they don’t have to provide good customer service.
Oh, and they told me that they’d be glad to discount my service by 50% for the month that I didn’t have service. Hahahahahahaha. Bet me!
Contrast this to Verizon Wireless. My cell phone got sick last week. By week’s end I had a new one and they offered me a month free service for my inconvenience! They have competition and it shows.
Kudos Verizon! Get with it Century Link!
