Subject: Vets fought for free speech not to squelch it.
Dear Chatlist:
I am over seventy years old and only recently subscribed to our county’s “Chatlist”. As a veteran of Vietnam with over 44 live combat missions I am grateful to see posts honoring those who served our country; however, I do find it ironic that as some members of the online community honor vets others seem to be squelching free speech. When we fight for our country we defend and honor all of our values and the rights delineated in the Constitution and the Bill of Rights—not just those we agree with.
It seems to me that if one local party posts information online than all should be encouraged to do so. If I do not want to know about septic tanks, vultures, home remedies, or draperies I just scan past the posts, which I imagine anyone reading the list can do if they do not care to read a post from a local political party either.
To be fair either no local party can post or all of them can post, which would include Libertarians and Greens, too. Vets sacrificed to preserve and honor free speech not squelch it.
Best Regards,
