764 West Street, Pittsboro, NC

PITTSBORO, NC – On Saturday, April 30, 2011, from 9am to 1pm, Chatham families and businesses are invited to Central Carolina Community College – Pittsboro Campus for a unique event to have some fun and learn about all the fantastic options we have to reduce, reuse, recycle, compost, and properly dispose of items in the county. Information will also be shared on the many litter prevention and clean-up initiatives taking place and ways to get involved.

If you or your organization provides a service or opportunity for Chatham residents and businesses to divert stuff from landfill and reclaim it for a better use, we need to know about  you!   Exhibitor applications are being accepted until April 8, 2011.    Download an application here: http://www.chathamnc.org/Index.aspx?page=800&recordid=4279.

The event includes exhibits, demonstrations, speakers, children’s activities, food and more. A paper shredding service has been booked to help residents destroy and recycle private documents safely and securely. Can Guy, Dottie Bottle & Beauty-Fly will also be making a special appearance!

Our speakers will address questions like. What happens to the things we throw away and who pays? How many local jobs are supported when people choose to reuse, recycle, or compost stuff instead of throwing it away? How can we reduce the amount of waste we generate and the costs associated with disposal? What types of disposal are safe, and legal? Who in our community really needs our unwanted stuff or hard to recycle items, and would love to collect it before we toss it in the trash?

The event is being coordinated by the Chatham County Waste Management department, Chatham Conservation Partnership, and Central Carolina Community College.
