I did not misinform my neighbors about the Cary meeting

In response to Heather Johnson’s post, I did not misinform my neighbors about the Cary meeting as she says.  Here are the facts.

Ms. Johnson says that the same procedures were used to notify citizens and the other members of the Board of Commissioners of the subcommittee meeting between Cary and Chatham.  This is simply not true.  When I was Chair of the Board of Commissioners, prior to each Cary meeting, I made sure that ALL the commissioners knew that a subcommittee meeting was being held.  Additionally and more importantly, I also ensured that the meeting was noticed to the citizens on the HOME page of the county website.

Ms. Johnson finds it inconceivable that I wasn’t notified of the meeting as evident from her statement  which said:  “Sally would not mislead you into believing she was not aware of this meeting.”  As hard as it is believe, it is the honest truth…  I was absolutely shocked to find out about the meeting  a week after it occurred.  Commissioner Cross was also unaware of the meeting.

The commissioners briefly discussed this issue today at our commissioners’ retreat, and we all agreed that more effort needs to be made to keep all commissioners’ informed.

Ms. Johnson also said that I gave the majority decision making to Cary, when the membership was three Cary members to two Chatham members.  That simply is not the way that the subcommittee worked.  Cary had one vote.  Chatham had one vote.

Ms. Johnson also continues to say   “Sally knows that it was not an illegal (sic) meeting.”  Again, I barely know Ms. Johnson so I am somewhat baffled that she feels she can make a statement about what I know and what I don’t know.   I don’t know if the meeting was legal or not, but no one brought that up except for Ms. Johnson.
