Subject: Chatham County Literacy Council Call for volunteer tutors!

Chatham County Literacy Council has an urgent need for volunteer tutors to work with adult low-level readers. Tutors are matched with students according to their calendar and geographical availabilities. Tutors can either request a training course from CCLC or if already comfortable with working with adult beginning readers can be matched immediately.

Please email or call 919-542-0578 today. We need you!

Think about what your life would be like if you couldn’t read to your children, fill out an application form, follow the directions on a bottle of medicine or find your doctor’s number in the phone book.

Nearly one of every five adults in Chatham County is struggling with those kinds of issues – either because they lack the necessary reading and writing skills or because they don’t understand English. As a result, many can’t find jobs, aren’t able to vote, can’t help their children with homework, and are self-conscious and

embarrassed about their literacy problems.

The Chatham County Literacy Council can help. As a non-profit 501(c)(3) agency, we provide free one-on-one and small-group tutoring for adults in:

* ABE (Adult Basic Education), which includes reading, writing and math;
* GED (high school equivalency) preparation;
* ESL (English as a Second Language) learning;
CCLC was created in 1990 as a “friends helping neighbors†group and was reorganized in 2007 as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization..
