In response to “Mr.” Voller’s not-so-subtle attack on the opposition to bringing Liquor by the drink to Chatham County, shame on you! It is within our rights as citizens of the United States of America to free speech, at least the last time I read the Constitution it was. Just as the “vote yes” group has been able to put their signs up, conduct their support marches, and spread blatant untruths concerning the “generation of revenue”. What I believe is appalling, is the fact that the “yes” group is so threatened by the “no” group that they have actually stooped so low as to steal the “no” signs. Please, children, let’s get out of the sandbox and act like adults for once.

I have also heard the argument that Chathamites want to vote “yes” so we can have “better restaurants”. There are quite a few restaurants that do not serve mixed beverages – so that argument is not so strong. I actually enjoy getting away and going to a nice restaurant instead of having them so close by – along with all the traffic that comes with it.

Most of us moved to Chatham County because we like the way it is (was). Why change it? Change is not always a good thing! Especially when it brings alcohol, which will also bring more drunk driving and ultimately more death to our county. And studies have shown, it’s typically not the drunk driver that gets killed, but the innocent lives that just happen to be on the road at the same time.
