Subject: Circle city traffic in the circle
As an advocate of a pedestrian-friendly Pittsboro, speeding traffic poses a serious and potentially life-threatening problem downtown.
Some say they’ve seen an improvement in safe driving since the new florescent cross walk signs were installed recently. I’m not convinced and this on-going discussion seems to prove that out … besides so many signs, and such bright ones are ugly and detract from the aesthetic appeal of our downtown.
IMO on-street parking is a good thing. If anything it should cause cars to slow down as they approach or leave the traffic circle to accommodate drivers who are leaving parking spaces. I don’t want Pittsboro to be characterized as a speed trap but if drivers aren’t obeying speed limit laws, then perhaps more stringent enforcement would remind them that we take the safety and appearance of our downtown seriously.
…and I’m definitely on board with those who wonder how people know that the drivers coming from the west are coming from Siler City. Unless you’ve followed them from there, that characterization isn’t fair at all.
