This is the most sensible piece of advice anyone has given on the Chatlist in months… on any topic.
It absolutely drives me crazy when people are raising free-range chickens and trying to grow organic vegetables yet are against hunting deer – as you said, free-range, organic, and there for the taking. The state gives you, for a $25 fee, SIX DEER TAGS! That’s a lot of protein for pretty darn cheap. And if you cannot find six deer in Chatham county looking to get shot, you just must not be looking. I have that many in my back yard most nights when I get home… munching on my fescue.
Just today, I was in the feed store and a guy came in to buy corn and horse feed to feed the deer so they wouldn’t eat his vegetables and landscaping. That just isn’t going to work. They will eat your corn, AND your landscaping. The only cure I see is to eat them before they over-run us even more than they have already.
Gotta go – backstraps are on the grill !
