Subject: Why you should vote for Mia Munn for school board
My name is Mia Munn, and I ask for your vote for Chatham County School Board. During the 24 years I have lived in Chatham County, I have focused on my three sons’ activities and their schools, Pittsboro Elementary, Horton Middle, Northwood, and Woods Charter. Over the years I have taught Sunday School, volunteered in the schools, served as PTA president for two years, and founded an athletic booster club. I have also been a scout leader for the past 14 years. Now that my youngest son has graduated from high school, I want to devote my energy to making the Chatham County Schools successful for all our kids.
I am a former social studies teacher, and a life-long student of education policy and curriculum. I left teaching when I had two small children, and my husband was running his own plumbing business, to have more time for our family. I have worked in various roles in finance for 12 years, including as a budget analyst and auditing vendor contracts. I have also worked in Information Technology and Project Management, earning my Project Management certification (PMP) in 2005. I have been involved in two institutional building projects; I served as vice-chair to the building committee for Evergreen Methodist Church, working on everything from financing to moving in. I also led the community surveys and wrote the educational specifications for the Woods Charter School building that opened in August.
I have experience in education, finance, and construction, all of which will be needed on the school board. I have supporters throughout all areas of Chatham County as well as across the political spectrum (Democrat, Republican, Libertarian, Unaffiliated). I have supporters who are newcomers to the county and supporters whose families have lived in Chatham County since before the American Revolution. They all agree that I am the most qualified candidate in this race.
