Subject: Council on Aging’s “Taste of Chatham” was a great event

The Chatham Council on Aging’s “Taste of Chatham” is a real nice event and a great opportunity to get a “taster’s choice” of what is available in terms of food and drink in the county.

It’s a great event for a great organization.

Go to http://chathamjournal.net/photos/v/tasteofchatham2008/ to see over 80 pictures from this weekend’s Taste of Chatham.

Since I came in a little late I didn’t get a chance to try everything (never got close to the desserts or the wines
Smiley.

Chatham native “Mama Dip” served up some corn pudding, spinach casserole and ham biscuits.

I enjoyed the General Store organic chicken salad wraps and salsa.

Enjoyed the presentation and taste of the  Carolina Meadows mini salmon parcels. Nibbled on the Galloway Ridge herb and garlic roast pork loin.

Tried several of the Torrero’s dishes.

My favorites were by Angelina Koulizakisas of Angelina’s Kitchen in Pittsboro. I can’t pronounce or correctly spell all the Greek dishes I tried but all were freshly made and good Tzatziki has always been one of my favorites.

Please note that I don’t mean to slight anyone who served food at the event, it’s just that I did not have the time to try everything. Maybe next year, I can do a quick YouTube food review of all the dishes served.

I was doing some “clean sweep” stuff at home this past week and found some pictures I took back in 1993 of the Taste of Chatham Event. (Gosh has it really been 15 years.) Former WRAL-TV anchor Charlie Gaddy was the host back then and the event was held in the Fearrington Barn.

My own favorite memory of this organization is when former Council on Aging director Cassie Wasko recruited me to take pictures of shut-ins to accompany a funding request before the BOC. She and I rode around the county going from home to home to get the photos. It was an eye-opener. I had to call my mom that evening and tell her I loved her.

Gary Phillips did a nice job as auctioneer.

Randy Voller also bid and won an item. You can ask him what he picked up.

Jennifer Andrews picked up a Dean Smith autographed basketball.
