Glad to see Chuck weigh in with some non-emotional evaluation of the
Mickey-Dee situation. I really feel sorry for the kids of people who
preach turkey and veal-calf?abuse on totally unrelated issues…
they?may well?grow up fearing everything and not being prepared to make
an educated choice in their lives. Having another McDonalds in Chatham
County will most likely do no more harm or good than having any other
employer of 20-or-so people. To tie this to the demise of locally owned
businesses (and isn’t the franchise owner of the new McD’s a local
owner as well?) or the utter downfall of our society is a but of a
stretch for me. America is about choice and tolerance. I think any
business that is legal and can find enough customers and a business
strategy to stay profitable deserves the right to make a go of it. I
can then chose to be, or not be a customer of that business… but it
is not within my rights to try to keep others from making their own
choice.
