The short answer as to why your child was assigned to JM is simple. You live in Siler City. Part of the reason Northwood is overcrowded comes down to districting. I don’t claim to be an expert but I believe one of the ‘solutions’ to the overcrowding problems in our schools that has been bandied about does have to do with redistricting and stricter adherence to the districts that exist.
For the record, I live in Siler City. I have a high school aged child, but, he attends Wood’s Charter School. I made that conscious choice several years ago when we lived in North Chatham and he was attending North Chatham Elementary (or whatever they are calling it these days). I didn’t understand why, when he was there, he was attending school with children from Moncure. (Their families had petitioned for their kids to attend out of district..North Chatham was also overcrowded)
I’m sorry that this decision has caused undue hardship for you and your family. If it had been me, I would be upset, too. But, we all must keep in mind that overcrowding and distribution of resources has been a large issue in our school system for a long time now.
