Subject: Piedmont Biofuels Fined $10,000 for release of pollutants

Piedmont Biofuels is worried about the environment being disturbed with the construction of the shopping center in town but they have to pay about $10,000 in fines and fees after an accidental release of pollutants into the Pittsboro sewer system.

Hmmmm that seems kind of interesting to say the least. For employees to say they were not aware that they were releasing material that can kill off microorganisms and fish. I say Hogwash!

I do not like the idea that The Pittsboro wastewater treatment plant has allowed Piedmont Biofuels to release several hundred gallons of “wash water” .. the water used to clean the biofuel during the manufacturing process .. since spring.

And to say that the fish in the Robeson creek were not affected is not true.

Have they paid the fine of $10,000 yet which by the way includes penalties levied against the town of Pittsboro by the Department of Water Quality and the cost of cleaning the water treatment plant.

In closing since the town fined them maybe we should fine the town with our present drinking water situation to protect the health of our children and everyone else.
